How Wire Electrical Discharge Machining Works?
Wire EDM is one of the primary methods utilized by CNC ALFA for metal processing. It is a modern technology that enables us to create highly precise parts with an accuracy of up to 1 micron while maintaining surface roughness below Ra0.2. This process finds its applications in many production processes that cannot be achieved through CNC Milling and CNC Turning.
Wire electrical discharge machining is a specific type of electro-erosion machining where a wire with a diameter of 0.1-0.3 mm acts as the cutting tool. Electrical discharges allow us to cut desired contours, channels, grooves, holes, and intricate shapes.
EDM allows us to produce parts with exceptional accuracy and surface quality while ensuring high repeatability and process stability in CNC machining. An important aspect is that the hardness of materials such as tool steel or titanium does not affect the wire EDM process. The cutting process remains stable thanks to the implementation of advanced machines equipped with systems that continuously monitor the wire EDM process and automatically adjust parameters.
